Scrolling or paging through a book

Hadn’t much thought about this before: Whether it is better to turn pages or scroll continuously when reading a book. We’ve been conditioned by the physical restraints of traditional book format and it just seems so natural to move on a page at a time. It’s sense of achievement, a page well done, as Dr. Drang points out in thoughtful his consideration of the question. But is scrolling better? I use scrolling often, particularly when reading news in Instapaper, but I stick to page-by-page navigation for books. Perhaps, after nearly two thousand years it’s time to return to all those old scrolls and read like the ancients. After all, we have already gone back to tablets.
