After last weekend’s gastronomic excesses at the Aarhus Food Festival I was totally unprepared for this. This evening near the Cologne cathedral I spotted five Japanese gentlemen huddled around an enormous sausage and several large plates of Sauerkraut.
It is by far the longest sausage I have seen in my life. And that is saying something. So, with Photokina starting this week and five Japanese gentlemen, obviously on business, it was reasonable to assume they were from Fuji, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic or Olympus. So I took a flier and asked if this masterpiece of Wurst wrangling was perhaps the new 1000mm telephoto from Olympus. Right first time. They were indeed from Olympus but they were noncommittal on new lenses and cameras. I would have to wait until Tuesday but I am now assured of a warm welcome on the Olympus stand thanks to a one-meter sausage.
