Photoshoot at 36,000ft: Flying Suites Class from Singapore to New York

Looking for an unusual photo opportunity? You could splurge all of £11,000 on a trip from Singapore to New York in Suites Class. Travel blogger Derek Low did. Or, rather, he claims to have emptied his air miles account for the privilege. I suspect he could have had a helping hand from the PR gurus at Singapore Airlines.

I make no secret of my fascination with flying and, whenever I can I clear out my air miles for a bit of extra comfort on a long-distance hop. Of course I’ve never tried Singapore’s Suites Class, which offers a private luxury room and, even a double bed if your partner is residing door. I have the camera, I have the blog, I have the will, the passport and the Star Alliance card. What about it, Singapore?

Derek Low certainly had a ball and it’s a wonder he had time to take all these fascinating photographs. His account is also full of humour:

Having stuffed myself with three entrées back in the lounge, I wasn’t particularly hungry so I settled for a 5-course supper.

And, after all that food:

When I woke up, I saw the clock and my heart sank. A little over 3 hours to Frankfurt. I’d slept for 6 hours, or $6,000 worth of the flight.

I know the feeling. Even in lowly Business Class you tend to feel cheated by falling asleep.
