Back in January I compared the Fuji X100T with the X-T1 as a tool for the street photographer. At the time I couldn’t make up my mind which I preferred. Since then I’ve had more experience with both cameras and it is the X100T that has had to go. The X-T1 is also a great street photographer tool and performs flawlessly. I’m willing to give up the complexities of the optical/electronic viewfinder system for the greater versatility of the interchangeable-lens X-T1.
However, one camera I didn’t consider at the time is the Panasonic LX100 and the almost identical Leica D-Lux. They are vastly different cameras, the Fuji with the larger APS-C sensor and fixed 35mm-equivalent lens and the four-thirds censored Panasonic/Leica with a fast zoom. But, as Mathieu at Mirrorlessons.com has discovered, they are actually very competitive in terms of performance. The LX100 also brings that important touch of versatility with its 24-75mm zoom ranging from f/1.7 to f/2.8.
As a travel camera, I suspect the D-Lux or Panasonic is likely to prove a more versatile and useful tool than the rather specialised fixed focal length X100T. It could be the ideal camera to throw in the bag for a short break without needing to worry about what lenses to pack.
