Oh well, goodbye Leica Passport. There’s nothing for it but to strip down your misbehaving Panasonic FZ1000 (aka Leica V-Lux) and put it back together again yourself. It’s easy (according to iFixit) and all you need is a few Phillips screwdrivers, a spudger and divers other instruments.

Before get down to work, though, have a butchers at this easy step-by-step guide. Mind you, it’s a tad disconcerting to read the E&OEs before you’ve even put spudger to plastic:

  • In several steps of this guide, the state of the camera in the accompanying visual or visuals will not correspond to the state of your camera. The visuals differ from your camera in the following ways:
  • Electronic ribbons will appear torn and taped. Your camera’s electronic ribbons should not be torn.

  • Black tape will appear crinkled due to prior removal. Your camera’s black tape should not appear to have been previously removed.

  • The MICjack plug will appear snapped. Your plug should not be broken.

And that’s before you start. Ah well, can’t have everything. It sounds a doddle really. Seriously, though, don’t try it. Send it back to Leica.
