Leica SL: On a test drive in snowy Boston

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been putting more time in with the Leica SL. It’s been around for months but I’ve been preoccupied with the M-D and a clutch of m4/3 stuff during the latter half of 2016. I’m glad to say, though, that I am getting to grips with Leica’s mirrorless beast at long last. I am liking it more and more and I’ll be writing about my experiences over the next few weeks. It certainly comes into its own in the winter, even in London’s moderate temperatures.

In the meantime, here’s an interesting article by Dirk Ahlgrim on his experiences with the SL during a test drive offered by a the Leica Store in Boston, USA. Dirk wasn’t able to try the camera with M lenses (no adapter…) but it’s perhaps as well since it snowed much of the time. As it turned out, the available combination of SL and the 24-90mm Vario-Elmarit zoom ticked all the boxes on a freezing New England day.

Since I’ve had the SL around for many months, it’s interesting to read Dirk’s first impressions. He is first and foremost an M shooter, as am I, but his first encounter with the SL was entertaining.

We are grateful for Dirk for giving permission to use some of the shots from his article. All images copyright Dirk Ahlgrim.

    • It’s a pleasure, Dirk. The Boston piece had a good following and your pictures are excellent. I’m always happy to cooperate on any projects such as this.
