It’s a sofort discount at Vodafone Germany if you are wanting a Leica-equipped smartphone. Take out a contract to buy a Hauwei P10 or P10 Plus and you get a Leica Sofort free, gratis and for nothing — but “only for a short time”. It’s a wonder Apple can sell their iPhones without such hefty incentives, but they do seem to manage. I spotted this offer in Berlin’s Friedrichstrasse last Saturday but didn’t stop to read the small print. Taken with the Leica Monochrom Mark I and 50mm Apo-Summicron-M ASPH.

This would be a three way deal between Huawei and Leica and the telecoms operator. The Sofort is an obvious ‘give away’ model that will generate film sales afterwards. Expect to see Soforts being given away with M10s when the waiting lists end. Huawei will have to fight hard to catch up in Europe as a premium brand, but this is a nice way to do some of the catching up.
