Apple has launched a slew of new products and system improvements at the World Wide Developers’ Conference today. Here are ten pointers to the future:
- HomePod, the new high-quality speaker system similar to Amazon’s Echo
- iMac Pro in space grey with pro-level performance (a placeholder for the much-neglected Mac Pro) and faster, cheaper iMac 21.5in and 27in models.
- Faster MacBook Pros with the Kaby Lake processor
- Faster MacBook with increased RAM options, new keyboard similar to those on the Pros.
- Amazon Prime video coming to Apple TV. How long will it be before Apple content is available on the Amazon Firestick?
- New Watch OS including a context-sensitive Siri complication
- iPhone Do Not Disturb function when driving and when linked to a car system. This is a significant development in the interests of road safety.
- New 10.5in and 12.9in iPad Pro
- MacOS High Sierra and new Mac File System
- Latest iOS 11

"Do Not Disturb" is a step in right direction. Not long ago, when I had teenagers driving, I used to wonder why smartphone manufacturers did not create motion sensitive controls that allowed parents to configure childrens (but paid for by parents) smart phones so that they would not send or recieve texts and/or calls when the phone was moving any faster than a human can walk.
The speaker might be interesting Mike, but that would depend on "HOW" connected to the Mac will be required inn order to use comfortably.
Oh and yet again, no refreshed desktops, just pads and phones, pads and phones —- it is getting depressing really.
BTW: The urge to put … in my comment almost overwhelmed me twice, and then finally I converted to dashes, when I could not be held back any longer. 🙂
Hmmm. The HomePod is has no relationship to the Mac except in that both devices are part of the Apple eco-system. It will work independently, just as do Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Home.
I’m not what you mean in the references to desktops — there are new iMacs which qualify as desktops and there is the new iMac Pro which will hold the fort until they can bring out a new Pro. And also there were no phones announced……
Duh, I missed that Mike…………………
I can barely see at the moment, been a bit sick, sadly I misread/misunderstood the meaning of being like those two other competitors product. not for me the, I will stick to Linn and enjoy not having some robot lurrrve from the likes of Alexa or Siri.
