Readers will be sorry to hear that our valued Australian contributor and great motoring enthusiast, John Shingleton, is quite ill following a nasty bacterial infection. He is now in excellent hands at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital and beginning to perk up enough to manage the odd email or two. I hope he remembered to pack his Leica X1 just in case….. John is in good spirits and I am sure that all readers will wish him well. You can read more from John at his blog, The Rolling Road, although currently it isn’t rolling as fast as usual.

If you wish to leave any comments John will see them.

  1. John, I sent you this mail earlier to-day but use Mike’s hospitality to re-send it here, in case the other route is road-blocked for the time being…….

"I’ve just been catching up on The Rolling Road and seen you are in hospital. Really sorry to hear that, and I hope the place has the gifts and skills to tackle "seriously unwell". I don’t know, of course, if you can get e-mails at the moment, but this comes with warmest good wishes and the hope you will see it.

I always like it when you mark the images you’ve taken with the X Vario – my special favourite among cameras. But I also enjoyed your friend’s little sequence with the RX100. I’ve been using my RX100iii rather a lot lately in places where I didn’t want bulk or weight, and I’ve become very impressed with it indeed – not least when I put it on intelligent auto and leave it to do all the thinking while I do the composing!

All the best and warmest greetings –
    John (from Denmark).

  2. I wish you a speedy recovery, John. I just caught up on the ‘Rolling Road’ and loved the Bruce McLaren shot and the Peabody Ducks. I am sure you will be out and about very soon, doing what you love best.

    William

  3. Recover carefully and surely John.
And consider which camera you will be using when you go for your first morning walk after release.
Will it be the treasured X1 ? Or the technically perfect Q ? Or the jack-of-all-trades X Vario?
    All the best.
