Following Oliver Kaltner’s decision to step down from his role as Leica Camera AG chief executive officer from tomorrow, the company’s supervisory board has named 52-year-old Matthias Harsch as his successor.

Since April this year Mr. Harsch has been the Leica board member responsible for sales, retail and marketing & corporate communications. He previously led a successful turnaround as the CEO of Loewe AG and for many years was a director of the Bizerba Group.

  1. I hesitate to quote Lady Bracknell’s famous dictum to Jack Worthing, as Leica is well past those numbers now. I presume that Dr Kaufmann has got an eye on potential investors in making this appointment. It is a difficult market for cameras generally, although Leica has its own unique niche and has other products in the mix. Mr Harsch has some background in the electronics field. One can only wish him well.

    • I also wish him well but just to be on the safe side if I were him I would not put any of my personal belongings into my desk drawers. Best to keep them in a cardboard box ready for a swift departure.
