Macfilos author Phoebe Shingleton dies

11

Sad news today as we say goodbye to one of our more unusual and enthusiastic contributors, Phoebe Shingleton. Phoebe put paws to the keyboard in 2019 at the prompting of her long-time servant, John, and received a warm welcome from our world. I am sure all Macfilos readers will join in sending their condolences. The grand old lady of Terrigal is no more.

As you can imagine, John Shingleton—our own Mr Leica X1—is extremely sad to lose Phoebe after 21 years. He is going through a very tough time himself at the moment, so the loss of Phoebe couldn’t have come at a worse time.

  1. Although I am new to Macfilos, I send my sympathy at your loss of Phoebe. So I share the words of Helen Keller: “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” This is true of pets and people; may it be true of you and Phoebe.

  2. I am sorry to hear that, John. I hope your fond memories and all the lovely pictures will keep your companion present. All the best, Jörg-Peter

  3. Very sorry for the sad news……as a pet lover, I can relate what John is going through. Please let your memories of Phoebe to make you strong now, and give you a smile everyday in the future. I still have a photo of my beloved golden retriever in my sitting room. Please take care John, and I will look forward to more interesting articles from you!

    Yours Truly,
    Patrick

  4. I’m sorry to hear of the demise of your wonderfully photogenic friend John, the last cat we kept in the Seargeant household sadly passed in 2008. He was only ten years old, and we have never replaced him, so unique was his character.

I will raise a glass of Bourbon this evening in her fond memory. Keep safe.

  5. I’m sorry to hear that the Caresser of the Keyboards, the Purrfector of Punctuation has left us all behind to the ponder the ellipsis of excess in our writings.

I still miss our dear old moggie who died 8 years ago and sounded like a two-pack a-day smoker when demanding food. They’re not really pets but the best of companions if you adhere to their house rules.

    RIP Phoebe.

  6. Really sorry to hear the news. A great loss of a wonderful companion. May your great images of Phoebe bring back fond memories to comfort you.

  7. Very sorry to read this news, John. A true member of your family. More important, is to overcome your other concerns, whatever they might be. We need your refreshing tales of your local travels. Wishing you brightness and peace in the days ahead.

  8. Sincere condolences John. You can be proud that Phoebe lived a long and happy life because of all your efforts. Wishing you well and happier times and look forward to reading more of your X1 experiences.
