Andy Ihnatko has it right when he says that the 11in MacBook Air, even with the basic 64GB SSD, is the new iCloudBook. When Apple introduced the surprisingly fast, diminutive and light laptop, iCloud was a year away. But it is almost as though the smaller Air was custom built for partnership with iCloud. As we get more used to keeping our stuff on the cloud, the need for massive local storage is withering. Google anticipated this with the Chromebook concept, but that is a compromise. The Air plus iCloud imposes few compromises, with the chance to use all your familiar Mac applications, and I think it is the future.
