London Mayor Boris Johnson, writing in The Telegraph this morning, fears that modern children have become so keyboard orientated that they are losing the art of handwriting:
I opened a fantastic new primary school the other day, and some prodigious 11-year-old was showing me the glistening banks of new Apple computers. I asked him whether he preferred to write on a computer or longhand, and he said that on the whole he liked to use the machine. Then his teacher said that many of the children were the same. “There are some schools in America,” she said, “where they have already stopped teaching handwriting.”
