For the past two years rumours have been predicting a full-blown Apple television set to replace the latest smart tv in your living room. Michael Gartenberg, writing in Macworld is one of the many who think this is unlikely:
If youโre screaming โtelevision sets!โ, calm down. Yes, even you, Wall Street Analyst Who Shall Not Be Named. The entire television-set business is worth about $30 billion dollars. Thatโs it. Even assuming Apple takes all of that, itโs hardly the type of revenue that Apple needs to fuel the future. Thatโs the kind of money the company keeps under the mattress for a rainy day purchase or two.
Quite apart from any other arguments against a television set from Cupertino, this is the clincher.
