That Apple TV again

For the past two years rumours have been predicting a full-blown Apple television set to replace the latest smart tv in your living room. Michael Gartenberg, writing in Macworld is one of the many who think this is unlikely:

If youโ€™re screaming โ€œtelevision sets!โ€, calm down. Yes, even you, Wall Street Analyst Who Shall Not Be Named. The entire television-set business is worth about $30 billion dollars. Thatโ€™s it. Even assuming Apple takes all of that, itโ€™s hardly the type of revenue that Apple needs to fuel the future. Thatโ€™s the kind of money the company keeps under the mattress for a rainy day purchase or two.

Quite apart from any other arguments against a television set from Cupertino, this is the clincher.
