George James published his excellent 50 Apo-Summicron images earlier today and I thought I would follow with some complementary shots from the Leica M246 Monochrom and my 28-35-50mm Tri-Elmar. Having the three focal lengths was an advantage, particularly when trying to get car pictures at close quarters. As George pointed out, though, it was big challenge to shoot the cars because of all the spectators milling around. Not really ideal conditions and, perhaps, we should have been there earlier in the day.

See, I can’t even post a reply without cocking it up. I give up!!
Nice stuff Mike.
I cannot seem to bond with my MM 246 in the way I did with my Mk1 Monochrom. So I am all the more impressed with your results. I am beginning to think that mine has a problem. It had monumental levels of crud in the sensor from the outset, and It inexplicably dumped 10 images yesterday. No idea why. A bad workman blames his tools etc etc?…….
Mind you, my first MM Mk1 died after only 3 days, so maybe I’m sensitive!

Thanks, John. I’m not sure you are alone in the binding stakes. I’ve had he same reaction to the 246 and, in some ways, prefer the original MM. It was somehow a purer camera, heir to the M3 et al. On Saturday I suffered a lot of exposure problems with blown highlights in the contrasting light. I’ve taken to setting compensation to -2/3Ev and then rely on being able to recover detail from the dark areas. I also felt I could have produced better results with a good prime such as the 50 Apo. I did notice that George, shooting at f/2 throughout was getting much better subject isolation than I was able to capture with f/4 on the MATE.
In many ways I wish I had held on to the M-P instead of buying the M246. The B&W conversions from the M-P were excellent and it is hard to tell the difference.
Hey ho! Next step an SL?
A lovely set of pictures Mike. My friend and his father regularly used to get themselves into trouble with the adjudicators by driving faster than the agreed maximum speed in their De Dion-Bouton tricycle!

Done a bit of that myself but many years ago and on a motorcycle! But I’ve always wanted to be a passenger on the RAC run. I’d even dress up for the occasion. Thanks for the comment.
