If rumours are to believed, the Apple event later this month will bring us not a revised iPad Air but a scaled-down iPad Pro, complete with keyboard cover and Apple Pencil. This is good news. I had already decided that the Pro is just too big for me but I do rather like the compactness and utility of the new keyboard. So promise of a smaller full-featured Pro is grabbing my attention.
I can understand power tablet users such as Federico Viticci . As a replacement for a MacBook an iPas it makes a lot of sense of you can accomplish everything you need to do without the conveniences of multiple windows and the precision of mouse or trackpad control.
Yet I have had a love-hate relationship with the iPad. It isn’t ideal for blogging on the Squarespace platform, which we use for MacFilos, and I prefer to do my photo processing on a Mac rather than on a tablet. It does excel at certain tasks; in my case one of the joys of the iPad is in reading magazines on Readly. Despite this, the MacBook is my portable of choice when travelling for more than a few days. No doubt this could change and the iPad Pro Junior could help us along the way. I will certainly be tempted to add one to the stable for use around home and on short trips.
Returning to Federico, he has taken a clear decision to make the iPad his main computing platform and all credit to him. He is a definite pioneer in this respect. But I can see more of us taking this step as the iOS platform becomes more capable.
