Sigma launches two new lenses: 16-300mm F/3.5-6.7 DC OS and Sigma 300-600mm F/4.0 DG OS Sports lens

It’s not every day that a photographic company launches two new lenses at once. Sigma has chosen to launch two new L-mount lenses that will satisfy the wish lists of many photographers looking for added range, speed, and compactness.

The new Sigma 16-300mm F/3.5-6.7 DC OS (24-450mm in 35mm full frame format)

The lens delivers ultra-versatile wide-angle, super telephoto and close-up photography all-in-one.

It features an 18.8x zoom ratio, and a magnification ratio of 1:2 to cover a wide range of photographic settings for extended-range versatility. The Sigma 16-300 also features 6 stops of image stabilization at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end.

The lens is equipped with a high response linear actuator for fast, smooth, and accurate autofocus. It also features a zoom lock at the wide end to prevent the lens from extending.

The lens weighs only 615g, is 121.4mm in length and 73.8mm in diameter, making it easily portable. It is also perfect for all weathers, with a dust and splash resistant structure and a water-repellent coating.

Prices for the Sigma 16-300mm F/3.5-6.7 DC OS are £599/€729,00/$699

The second of the new Sigma lenses offers superior optical performance, extended-range and agility for professionals. Featuring 28 lens elements in 21 groups, it provides excellent correction of optical aberrations to meet prime lens standards and brightness. The design also helps correct the typical “front forward” balance of many zoom lenses.

For excellent image stability, the lens features stabilisation equivalent to 5.5 stops, and offers two OS modes. One is for stills photography, and the other designed specifically for panning shots. A new function ring adds the ability to set a pre-registered focus position, and also the ability to smoothly shift focus for movie shooting.

For lightness and durability, Sigma constructed the lens barrel of magnesium alloy, coated with thermal insulation paint to reduce heat absorption. They also made the of carbon fibre, for strength and lightness.  For practicality, the tripod socket allows for smooth rotation and is compatible with Arca-Swiss clamps.

Prices for the 300-600mm F/4.0 DG OS Sports lens are £5899/€6,999/$6000

  1. Pretty remarkable that Sigma still releases new APS-C lenses (like the 16-300) also in L-mount given that there are no L-mount APS-C cameras anymore… I guess there must still be a certain demand, or do they mainly get used on FF cameras?
