Amazon Streaming: Prime customers get movie rentals

It was a good try. This morning I received Amazon's press release announcing the new instant video streaming service for Amazon Prime members. Worth a go, so I followed the link and found myself in my Amazon account with access to 5,000 movies and TV shows. I did notice all the prices were in dollars, but I was in my account so it was worth a try: Especially so when I saw that The Social Network (which I purchased from Apple last week for £9.99, it not being available for rental), was being offered on 7-day term for $3.49. Bargain.

I found something I'd like to try and pressed the 1-click button but……

Due to location restrictions we cannot process your order. Amazon Instant Video customers must use a US credit card and billing address. Orders can only be completed by US residents while inside the United States – the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia.

So now we know, but I couldn't find any mention of these restrictions in Amazon's press release. Nevertheless, now the system is in place I presume it is only matter of time before we get it in the UK.
