eBooks: No need for a brown-paper cover

Photo: The GuardianIn days gone by, a brown paper book cover was a sure sign of decadence. Lurking behind the noncommital covering could lie something as subversive as Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

My friend Tony Cole of eBookanoid.com touches on the problem, citing a recent survey which purports to prove that 58 percent of ebook readers were bought by people wanting to read porn or, astonishingly, children’s books.

I can think of an ever better reason to go for ebooks: You can read the latest turgid and impenetrable Booker or Orwell Prize tome without anyone thinking you are a poseur. Bring pack the brown paper cover.
