Leica fixes SL3 firmware bug that caused image files to be deleted

Leica has reacted quickly to repair the SL3 firmware bug that left some owners wondering where their pictures had gone. Random overwriting of files is a potentially disastrous occurrence, especially for professionals, and this is therefore an essentila updade.

In an earlier statement, the company admitted that there had been “isolated cases” where previously saved images could be overwritten without notice.

Firmware 1.1.9 is an essential upgrade before you use your SL2 camera again (Image Leica Camea AG)

Essential update

The error occurred typically if the camera has not been switched off property (for instance when charging the battery in standby mode or after an unexpected software interruption). Users had been asked to save files to external media as soon as possible.

In the past, most of us have been rather tardy in installing firmware updates.
But, in view of the potentially disastrous effects of the SL3 firmware bug, this is one update that all SL3 owners must download and install immediately.

  1. I still can’t believe they have yet to issue a firmware update to bring back mf zoom-in via joystick for my SL2-S like it originally was.
As it is I have to use my SL and SL2-S in different ways with M lenses. Very annoying.

  2. Unbelievable- is Wetzlar employing Microsoft programmers now that their updates are like windows updates – incessant bug fixes instead of adding useful features like Crop mode in Video
