Leicas of London: Highlights from the LSI Spring Shoot

You can start your Christmas wish list here

The Leica Society International (LSI) Spring Shoot conference took place in London in mid-May, and the presentations, panels, and talks have been impressive and inspirational. Meeting many members of the Leica family, including people I have known for years only online, has been fantastic. It was my first ever LSI event and I wanted to say hello to as many attendees as possible. As an icebreaker, I decided to take photographs of some of the many Leicas that people had with them.

The variety of cameras (and rarity of some) was a sight to behold for anyone interested in photography, and heaven for Leica-lovers. There were many M bodies, as you might expect, with some very exotic versions and lenses on show. A few SLs, a very nice CL, and a flurry of Qs. There was also an X-U waterproof camera, which I’ve never seen in the flesh. It’s a good job I spent all my money on my recent Vietnam holiday, and otherwise I’d have been over at Leica Mayfair looking to add a Q3 43 to my bag.

Here is a selection of cameras for you. Thanks to everyone who was happy to let me photograph their pride and joy. I’m sure you’ll let me know if I have misidentified any of them. Enjoy…

  1. Well done, Andrew. Sorry we could not execute your original plan of having all of the cameras strung around Jono’s neck as trying to keep a conference on schedule is no easy task. What you have done here is a splendid substitute. As I was ‘working’ for the 3 days of the meeting, all of my ‘exotic’ models stayed back home in Dublin.

    • Entirely understand William.

It’s a nice idea that maybe could become a standard feature at future LSI gatherings where we carve out 15 minutes or so to assemble the members and their cameras. We managed to do that with the “class photo” in Montreal last year, so it’s possible.

And well done to Andrew for his charm and perseverance in persuading members to participate!
