While waiting for Apple to open the pearly gates to iCloud, I’ve been pondering on what I will miss most about Mobile Me. Despite its initial traumas, MM has been a paragon of reliability and all my devices have been kept in sync. I know others have had problems, but I have to say my experience has been good.
Unfortunately, the move to iCloud ditches a number of sync operations we have taken for granted. Dock and widget sync I can live without. But I have found bookmarks, keychain and email account synchronisation extremely useful. In fact, bookmark synchronisation is one of the reasons I have stuck doggedly by Safari on my Macs.
Since I started using 1Password’s keychain, synchronised via Dropbox, I’ve been storing less in the OS X keychain. But there is still enough system stuff there to warrant keeping it in sync between Macs.
Maybe Apple think that these lost Mobile Me sync functions will be taken over by third-party software. I certainly hope so and I would be first in line for a reliable bookmark sync.
I have also discovered some anomalies and at one stage managed to delete my entire bookmarks bar because I found what I thought was a duplicate folder. Currently I have the bookmarks bar working on the Macs but it is still empty on the iPad. Instead, there is a Bookmarks Bar folder which contains the links but doesn't appear at the top of Safari. It is all very strange. I would appreciate your photos and will see if I can make a post out of it.
Thans Michael for your note. I've been a Mobile user for years so what I'm totally puzzled by it is that under my MobileMe my bookmarks in all my devices were in sync. Didn't have an issue with duplicates, If I made a duplicate entry deleting it from one device will remove from the others under MobileMe. Well, after moving to iCloud it's a total nightmare. Can't seem to get iCloud to reset my bookmarks to the pristine state I set from my MBP or iMac. I have pics to show if you would like. I've been in touch with Apple but so far no words about it though 🙁 Found other users having similar issues too but so far no one has come up with a work around to get things working properly. Thanks again for your reply! Truly appreciate it!

Hi Eli
I haven't noticed problems, just a few anomalies which I put down to me rather than iCloud. All my bookmarks are there but some are duplicated. I can see the reason for this. I has created separate bookmarks on various devices (iPad, iPhone). While in the past I had book an sharing turned on in Mobile Me, it never seemed to work too well, hence the duplications. Now you have flagged the issue I will have a further look; I will also try deleting some of the duplicates to see if there is any mass spawning of duplicates. Thanks for the heads up.
Hello Michael,
Thanks for the informative website you have. Apple users like myself appreciate your work.
Just wondering if you or any listener are experiencing horrendous issues with iCloud. I've been a MobileMe user for several years and upon upgrading my Macs and iOS devices I decided it was time to move to iCloud based on all that has been said about it. Everything under iCloud that I've been able to test seems working except my bookmarks in Safari. I have done everything I can and my bookmarks in all my devices are mess-up. Actually, the are all screw-up in horrendous way.
I have followed every tip I can find about it to no avail. Went to the Apple Store and even the Genius guy could not help me. Everything that I try to clean up my bookmarks iCould resets everything multiplied dozens of time! It's ridiculous and there seem to be no way in how to reset bookmarks in the cloud.
Any tips or anything else I could try or do I'm all ears. Have spent already 15 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success. Not happy Apple realize once again another great and promising product with bugs.
Regards,
Eli
