Teletext: Pre-Internet sloth falls off perch

Remember Ceefax, or teletext as it was generically known? This wacky harbinger of the internet has finally had its last painful refresh. Analogue tv has been switched off in London and we are now firmly in the digital age.

Before personal computers and certainly before the Internet, Ceefax was the place to go for weather, flight times, tv listings, holiday offers and time shares on the Costa Brava. It was like watching paint dry, so slow was the page refresh rate, but it has been manfully fighting its corner right up to 2012. Until this week there were some people who got all their news from Ceefax. RIP teletext.
