MacFilos has been offline most of the day because of a silly misunderstanding with Squarespace. I changed over to the new SS6 platform this morning. Then fired off an optimistic note of welcome. I had been led to believe, and I checked this carefully with customer support, that it was simply a matter of swapping the names around in logical sequence.
Because the URL of the site has remained identical, I naïvely imagined there would be no need to do anything to the mapping from my domain, macfilos.com, which is hosted elsewhere. I was wrong. After emails and calls from regular readers I realised that macfilos.com was still being redirected to the old site, which is now locked.
Further discussion with Squarespace ensued and I found I would indeed have to remap my domain. I hadn’t realised the degree of separation between SS5 and SS6. I’ve now done this but it will take some hours to resolve and I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no more hiccups.
This all very regrettable and I am sorry that Squarespace didn’t see fit to make this clear when I asked for simple step-by-step instructions for switching over.
So now I am waiting. Regular RSS feed readers should receive this, but anyone attempting to access macfilos.com will be disappointed. If you want to see the site in the meantime, please use the full URL which is http://www.macfilos.squarespace.com. In the meantime, sorry for the inconvenience.
