Lightroom CC off to a flying start. People pluckily tackles and hiccups on 27,000 images

Ah, no, sorry, none of these shots includes the mysterious Bletchley Girl 2. A little gender confusion but early days yet. Good try, though.

So far so good. I have been running new new Lightroom CC (also known as Lightroom 6) for a few days and have encountered no problems on my desktop iMac. Subjectively, it runs much faster than Lighroom 5 although I haven’t been able to do any back-to-back testing.

I had great fun with the new People view and set off the iMac to trawl through 27,000 images overnight. Before bed I identified a few faces, just to be helpful, and by the morning the results were interesting to say the least. They kept me entertained for hours.

At least everything had been processed and there was a surprising number of accurate hits. Quite a few misses, though, as you can see from the tongue-in-cheek images. No doubt Lightroom will soon learn and I can see this being a very useful feature. I loved Faces in iPhoto and Aperture and have been missing it in Lightroom 5.

Seriously, joking apart, don’t take these images too seriously. This result is par for the course while any photo management system is learning the ropes and I know the hit rate will rapidly improve.

My one glitch in the installation is that Lightroom CC refuses to load on my travel computer, a three-year-old 11in MacBook Air. The welcoming graphics appear and then the program crashes. I haven’t had a chance to investigate but, at least, I have Lightroom 5 to fall back on.

Another strange thing is that the Creative Cloud menu is refusing to allow Lightroom 5 to be uninstalled. Again, I need to investigate; perhaps there is a very good reason, possibly an effort to prevent eager beavers from burning their bridges before they have made sure Lightroom CC is for them.

To help with all this, Adobe has uploaded over 50 tutorial videos to YouTube and you can find them here. No doubt all my questions will be answered.
