Leica SL firmware update now available for download

Firmware version 2.1 for the Leica SL is now available for download and is mainly designed to allow the camera to work with the new version 3.4 of Leica Image Shuttle and version 1.1.0 of the Leica Tethered Plug-in. The camera firmware must be installed in order for the new software to work.

The Image Shuttle software increases workflow efficiency for tethered shooting with the SL and allows the camera to be controlled from a computer via a USB 3.0 connection. All relevant exposure parameters such as shutter speed, apeture, ISO value and autofocus can be set and controlled from the computer, and exposures can be displayed directly on a large monitor for assessment.

The new Leica Tethered Plug-in 1.1.0 establishes a direct connection between the camera and Adobe Lightroom 6 or Creative Cloud via USB. The shutter release can be activated from the plug-in and the captured images can be displayed immediately in Lightroom.

The firmware update includes a number of bug fixes, including one where P mode would be selected for M lenses. Registered SL owners can download the new firmware and software from the Leica Owners’ Area.

Leica has also announced the Leica R-Adapter L which allows the large range of legacy R lenses to be used on the SL. It is available fro pre-order and will cost £550.
