A familiar face around Leica Mayfair over the past few years, well-known portrait and fashion photographer Arteh Odjidja has now established his own business and is planning a series of workshops for those, like me, who need a bit of a push. I have my eye on his Monochrome Street Portraits Masterlcass which is taking place in Berlin on September 30.
According to Arteh, who I met again at the Leica TL2 press conference last month, participants in the one-day masterclass will learn how to direct a professional model and create a portrait narrative. They will “gain useful tips to achieve dynamic black and white portraits on location, while using natural light and the surrounding elements to enhance the final outcome in timeless monochrome.” The subject will be a young migrant model, inspired by Arteh’s Stranger Series of photographs.
So, if you fancy an autumnal weekend in Germany’s capital, have a word with Arteh to see if there are any places left. The cost, €200, is very reasonable and I’m sure this will be a wonderful experience. The venue is Imago Fotokunst in the Veteranenstraße, Berlin Mitte.
You can find full details of the Masterclass here. Mention Macfilos if you are speaking to Arteh.
