An exciting range of Leica straps and cases designed by Evris Papanikolas has just been launched in Athens. The brand name is Tie Her Up which, to my northern European eyes, appears to be bordering on the politically incorrect. They don’t do PC in Greece, thankfully. It’s a sort of Fifty Shades of Grey for Leica or, as the box says, Camera Bondage. We won’t let that worry us because the designs are amazing and I am sure the word will soon spread outside of Greece. What is strange is that I have never really considered Greece to be one of the most enthusiastic countries for Leica ownership. As far as I am concerned, this camera bondage is the best thing to come out of Hellas since feta cheese and olive oil.
The straps, some from leather and some from “climbing rope” (!), look very attractive from the pictures. I haven’t yet handled them. My new dealer friends at Skiadopoulos in Athens are sending me a sample of my instant favourite, a red rope wrist strap with an unusual sliding leather sleeve to ensure a snug fit around the wrist. I haven’t seen anything quite like it and, if the quality is as it seems, I am sure there will be a market in western Europe and the USA. The red will go down well in China, too. A very lucky wrist strap.
Another innovation, which I haven’t seen before, is the soft leather pouch for M bodies (without lens), one of which is shown in the top photo.
I am waiting for more full-sized photographs (these are taken from Facebook) before reviewing the range. You can see more examples on Facebook here.
Who’s bothered about a bit of PC when there’s a seductive M6 to be tied up? Much more exciting.
Great range which I heard about last week from Denise Skiadopoulos. I have written a review which you can find here http://goo.gl/UvLX7j
